The Rain Came

Finally. After two years of severe drought we finally have a wet Spring. It is very welcome, because the drought has dried up our well that fed our sprinkling system. This killed the lawn and ended our growing of vegetables.

The rain, probably being out of practice started with dark clouds, lot of loud thunder and flashy lightening, but only a few drops of water. But later it started getting better and by May we had real showers, two or three times a week. Today it culminated in a spectacular downpour with water everywhere.

The irony is that the same day our Transylvanian workers started to clean out the well, which you can see on the left side of the photo. This well was created to fill up the steam locomotives using this station. You can also see the platforms on the picture. They told us that wells have to be cleaned out every 10 years to function properly. They have a lot of experience with wells so I asked them to do it. However, halfway through they had to stop to help us fight the water that was pouring into the guesthouse.

Everything is fresh and green and tomorrow I will go out to see how the dried up creecks are doing. We are going to have a vegetable garden this Summer and we might even replant the lawn this Fall if the drought does not come back this Summer.

One thing is sure, that at least for the next two months we will not have forest fires.
