The last month wasn't very good. I started my third chemo therapy and continued the artificial feeding program. This meant being hooked up to a machine which pumps a pouch full of liquid food into my stomach. This happens at six in the morning, at noon and at 8PM and each lasts two and a half hours. I am attached to the carrier of the pouch and the motor by a hose that ends in my stomach. With this it is difficult to move around.
With a certain type of chemo therapy I have a smaller pump which I can carry on a strap around my neck. This is attached to a vein at my right shoulder. This is on me 24 hours a day, so I even sleep with it. Rather uncomfortable and restraining. The feeder has to be washed out after every use. But the worst part is that now for months I have not tasted real food or vine, because swallowing is very painful and part of the food or liquid goes the wrong way which makes me cough and choke.
But a few days ago I got a new medicine, which in one day healed my throat and slowly I was able to start eating REAL food. What a pleasure. I still have to feed myself twice a day with artificial food to regain the weight I have lost. Good eating also brought back my interest in cooking. Today I made a Quiche with mushrooms that turned out very tasty. Also I am a member of Big Oven a very good cooking Web Page. You can find my recipe for a Hungarian Barbecued Chimney Cake,( Kürtös Kalács in Hungarian) (www.bigoven.com). Try it. In an earlier posting on this blog you can see how we made it with my daughter.
Friday I had a scan and the result was that the cancer is under control and the tumor is shrinking as a result of the therapy. This is the first time this year that I feel better and today I was full of energy and optimism. So we decided to hold our annual cocktail party at the end of May and I am looking forward to see are friends. We are very fortunate by having lots of real good friends here.

Oh, I am so happy for you!! Good food (maybe not wine) and good friends are a wonderful combination. When I come back to visit we will have to try some more recipes.

I could not be more delighted!
